White Flight in Sweden

A new study from Linneuniversitet confirms that Sweden is becoming more and more segregated along ethnic lines as a direct result of mass immigration from the Middle East and North Africa. Those who move first are highly educated and/or have a high-income giving credence to my post from last year.

Yes, we’ve found a so-called “tipping point” at around 3-4%, says Emma Neuman, research economist at Linneuniversitet. When the non-European immigrants are that many in a residential area then the native Swedes start moving out.

Emma claims the effects were stronger in the 1990’s. Back then the tipping point was somewhat lower. According to Forskning & Framsteg this could be interpreted as people becoming more tolerant. Perhaps, or the odd million immigrants since then has limited the supply of white neighborhoods.

-The effect doesn’t revolve around immigrants generally. Immigrants from European countries give a no-move effect, instead it revolves around non-European immigrants. It is reminiscent of the phenomenon white flight in the USA where whites move away from neighbourhoods where many blacks move in.

Acceptance of diversity is in proportion to your distance from it

-Many people talk about ethnic diversity as an enriching factor, but when you choose a school for your kids or are going to move the question becomes very concrete, and then you often choose some form of Swedishness, according to Maja Lilja, sociologist at Örebro University.

She has interviewed 19 mothers of small children about diversity and Swedishness for her doctorate, and focuses on questions regarding segregation. Mixed neighbourhoods are considered interesting in interviews, but they don’t end up picking them in the end. (surprise-surprise)

-People pick whats best for their child, she says. They don’t want their kids to be in a minority, (curiously an overwhelming majority of the population vote for political parties that are working full-time to make their children and grand-children minorities in their own country – my note) or they place a lot of weight on the Swedish language.

In other words it’s about giving of the perception that you embrace diversity but when push comes to shove you aren’t willing to risk your own childrens well-being by raising them in Tensta and sending them to the Al-Azhar school in Stockholm.

I thought diversity was our greatest strength? I guess Sweden has not yet learned to be multicultural.

  3. It’s interesting that people who pretend to embrace “diversity”, flee from targeted areas. I wonder why they don’t ever question their own reasoning as to who it is they’re trying to impress or placate with their hypocritical profession of multiculturalism and why they feel that they must at least pretend to conform. One would think that a person would rebel against any idea that was personally repugnant regardless of what ” popular opinion” suggests. I would want to find out who is advocating the destruction of my community and then actively oppose them, not worrying about what they think! Multiculturalism is just a codeword for White genocide.

    1. A sensible comment. As to why people are not rebelling openly against the ‘multiculturalism’ which is being pushed in all western countries, it is probably because the only way the people have power is if they rebel in millions, and that is not happening–yet.

At this point, the governments, academics, and most of all the police, hold the power, and to cross them will almost certainly mean one’s job, pension, and perhaps freedom, for nothing is beyond the scope of the traitors presently ruling the west.

  4. Whose idea was it that diversity was somehow good for us? Why is it only predominantly white countries that need diversity? Why do predominantly black countries not embrace diversity? Were the people of Europe ever asked whether or not they wanted diversity?

We used to go on holiday to embrace different cultures and we should bear in mind that these cultures have taken thousands of years to develop. It is simply not possible for all cultures to live together harmoniously because their inherent beliefs differ tremendously.

For example, a culture based around Islam believes that unbelievers will burn in hell if they do not embrace the faith. Unbelievers can be made slaves, raped and sexually abused because they have no worth in Islam. This culture does not belong in a culture that abhors this type of ideology and will never embrace it.

Sweden used to be a wonderful country but she is giving away her heritage by forgetting who she is. Diversity does not mean giving up your own culture in favour of another. And I believe Sweden will regret this deeply in years to come.

  5. “Acceptance of diversity is in direct proportion to your distance from it.” I like that, suspecting it often true. Americans have long experience with frequent immigration, so that “flight” responses here may vary more according to the education and income of newcomers than to culture differences per se, but the phenomenon definitely still exists.

    1. Sweden ceased being homogenous very recently so the threshold for the USA is most likely higher seeing as people are more accustomed by and large to people of different racial / ethnic background not to mention that the people migrating to Sweden are from countries such as Somalia, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Iran i.e. vastly different cultures, languages, religions, values.

Whilst this particular study doesn’t seem to take socio-economic status of newcomers into account I doubt that is the main variable even though it surely plays a role.

Ethnic groups appear to actively self-segregate with others from the same group. Makes sense considering they are more likely to speak the same language, behave in a similar fashion, share the same values / religion, culture.

Multiculturalism and diversity has a negative effect on social trust which is precisely what has built the Scandinavian welfare-states.

“Harvard professor of political science Robert D. Putnam conducted a nearly decade long study how diversity affects social trust.[95] He surveyed 26,200 people in 40 American communities, finding that when the data were adjusted for class, income and other factors, the more racially diverse a community is, the greater the loss of trust. People in diverse communities “don’t trust the local mayor, they don’t trust the local paper, they don’t trust other people and they don’t trust institutions,” writes Putnam.[96] In the presence of such ethnic diversity, Putnam maintains that

[W]e hunker down. We act like turtles. The effect of diversity is worse than had been imagined. And it’s not just that we don’t trust people who are not like us. In diverse communities, we don’t trust people who do look like us.”

Another study (albeit small) confirms that people self-segregate.

“A new study of American high school students may be troubling for advocates of racial integration-it finds that the larger a school, the more likely its students are to racially self-segregate instead of forming interracial friendships.

The study, conducted by University of Michigan sociology researchers Siwei Cheng and Yu Xie, suggests that the more options students have in choosing friends, the more likely they are to settle into close friendships with those who have similar racial backgrounds.”

  6. The secondary school that I attended was majority black (90%), and I had several close friends that were black. We had similar interests such as smoking pot, rock & roll, motorcycles and such, and they were the only ones that would stand with me against the other blacks, every time. This was back in the late 70s/early 80s, and Im sure times have changed for the worse.

  7. More often that not, the supporters of ‘diversity’ have never lived in a multi-ethnic (never mind ‘multicultural) town or city. They live in rural areas that are exclusively white and middle-class.

      1. You’ve put a good blog together. There are too many posts on unrestricted immigration and multiculturalism to comment on each individually, but Sweden – albeit much less crowded than England – is suffering from similar issues.

  8. Their self loathing leaders gave their country a way. From my understanding they can’t even talk about the subject without being bullied, label a racists, or even jailed. Some becon of democratic freedom Sweden is. At best, I see civil war coming or at worst welcome to the islamic republic of Sweden.
How will the feminist movement go when sharia is enforced. At least the burka will keep them warm in winter.
