UPDATE: 2015-03-12: The man who posted on Facebook not convicted for hate speech.
UPDATE: 2015-04-15: Prosecutor decided to appeal to a higher instance.
In July 2014 a man came home after a long day at work and didn’t fall asleep until 03.00. His sleep was unfortunately cut short due to the Muslim call to prayer which commenced blasting from outside of his apartment at 07.30. Being understandably cranky after a mere 4.5 hours of sleep he decided to get on Facebook and post a video of the prayer along with the following comment:
“It isn’t normal to be woken up by a donkey with a stomach ache.”
He deleted the post within 30 minutes but by that time it had spread like wildfire and before he knew it an angry mob of 100-200 Muslims had gathered outside of his apartment to physically assault him. One witness told police that certain individuals had knives.
“Some of the people on the spot say that if the police do not do something about X they will do it themselves. Someone says that it isn’t hard to crush a window and get to X who lives on the bottom floor.” – extract from Police Report.
As luck would have it the man survived the ordeal but it wasn’t going to end there. He is, in fact, going to court tommorow where he will stand trial for his deeply offensive Facebook post.
The Pakistani Penal Code prohibits blasphemy and from 1987 to 2014 over 1300 have been accused of blasphemy and politicians opposing the law have been assassinated. The post falls under paragraph 298 and leads to 1 years imprisonment, fine, or both.
“Uttering of any word or making any sound or making any gesture or placing of any object in the sight with the deliberate intention of wounding the religious feelings of any person” – §298 PCC
What makes this case special is that the events and the court proceedings are not taking place in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad but in the small city of Nyköping, Sweden.
In 1970 the Swedish blasphemy law was supposed to have gone up in smoke but it seems to have morphed into the malleable and all-encompassing law against so-called “hate speech”. Prosecutor Michael Forsberg does not consider the crime to be minor:
“Taken out of context the comment appears to be inoffensive. But together with the video and the fact that it got an enormous proliferation it isn’t criticism against religion but a pure mockery.” – M.F.
Mårten Schultz, Civil Rights professor at Stockholms University, strongly disagrees with him and states that even though it is unlikely that the case will lead to conviction it undermines the hate speech legislation. I am inclined to agree with Mårten on this one but would like to add the following.
The government does not send off the right signals when a mob of offended knife-wielding Muslims are seen as victims whilst a sleep-deprived man who posted a Facebook status critical of a call to prayer is seen as an enemy of the state.
Here is a video of the prayers in question which you ought to avoid criticizing harshly in Sweden, unless you fancy going to court or being assaulted.

When Sweden got its new leftist government last fall, one of the very first things it did was recognize “Palestine” as a fully legit state. Many were baffled, not least because the Swedish population at large didn’t have a particular opinion on the matter while razing foreign relations with many Western countries. In effect, it was a shameless pandering to the extreme left; foreign policy as an interior policy tool.
The issue is complicated no matter how you twist it, because the defintion of “Palestine” and its people vary at different points in history. Furthermore, President Abbas and his government has some legitimacy issues since they are years past their term in office. The reason new elections can’t be held, Abbas says, is that terrorist organization Hamas won’t allow it. Which brings the issue of de facto territorial control into the light.
Simply put, this is a can of worms that have smarter people than me pulling their hair out, so let’s just conclude one thing: A bumbling welder from Sweden with zero insight or education on the issues should probably stay out of it.
So of course, this is PM Löfvens chosen area to “make his mark” in history.
[NOTE: Yes, the prime minister of Sweden is an uneducated welder who even dropped out of welding trade school. No joke. Google it!]
In an almost comical parody of their own cluelessness, foreign minister Margot Wallström was then caught completely by surprise when Israel didn’t do cartwheels of joy. She had planned an official visit, but quickly cancelled blaming “scheduling conflicts” when Israel made it clear she was welcome as a tourist but would not get to meet any officials.
Well, now Abbas has visited Sweden and met with Löfven and his government. The Swedish PM has made no secret that his ambition is to get into the UN security council, so he tried to be all statesman-like with lots of lofty talk about re-igniting the peace talks and negotiations under the wise guidance of Saint Löfven. Uh, yeah. Good luck with that.
But the main, concrete thing to come out the whole deal is that Sweden is increasing it’s financial support to Palestine by 50%, to 1,5 billion SEK. It may not sound like much, but consider that Sweden is a small country of just under 10 million citizens. The 2013 grand total tax intake is 790 billion, with expenses running at 921 billion.
Yes, that’s a deficit. And Löfven’s own finance minister Magdalena Andersson has spent the bulk of her time in office wringing her hands about the coffers being empty. She has repeatedly made it clear there simply is no room for propping up the crumbling infrastructure, steady decline in health care (Sweden now has the lowest number of hospital beds per capita in EU) or the laughable military that basically consist of a general ready to wave a white flag (on duty office hours Mon-Thu only, due to budget cuts).
But dumping the equivalent of two years’ worth of cancer treatment for the entire country into the lap of Palestine with zero control and virtually guaranteed corruption swiping the lion’s share of it? Sure!
And here’s another wrinkle: Suppose the long-delayed elections do take place. Suppose Hamas wins. Then you have a legit, democratically elected government (according to Sweden) that is simultaneously classified as a terrorist organization. UN and EU don’t look kindly on funding terror, and 1,5 billion SEK isn’t chump change. What then?
Odd story which regards Swedens first homeopathic emergency room.
SVT have also written a short piece and there are three points which I reckon are worth bringing up:
- The new emergency room is entirely private and does not recieve government support.
- Healthcare personell with a medical degree may only handle homeopathic remedies in extreme exceptions according to the National Board of Health and Welfare.
- By Swedish law a healthcare method needs to be safe and actually work.

This so-called “Research Group” could do a lot of things such as expose war-criminals, terrorists but instead choose to squander their energy on relatively harmless individuals who choose to write offensive things online. Either way the age-old question asked by the roman poet Juvenal stands to this day.
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? – Who will watch the watchers?
In 2012 a SOM-institute survey revealed that only 24% of Swedes trusted their journalists, the lowest of any profession in the country. But what do journalists expect when they scrutinize private citizens instead of the government?
Update 2015-03-09: Swedish magazine Focus was going to write about the Research Group but they have decided to back down, not atypical behaviour of the cowardly journalists that this country is cursed with.

It is said one picture is worth a thousand words. This picture was taken by the No Pegida-movement at the first Pegida rally in Sweden held last night in Malmö.
The couple dozen standing peacefully in the middle are the actual Pegida-people demonstrating against sharia laws in Europe.
The 4000 standing around them hurling insults, firecrackers and other objects being forcefully held back by the police to prevent them from ripping the Pegida-demonstrators to bits are the “good guys”.
According to the media and the government, it is the handful in the middle that are a tremendous threat to people surrounding them as well as the fabric of society itself.
Note the pink Feminist Party-banner (FI) where self-proclaimed women’s rights activists are thus demonstrating in favor of sharia laws.
The St Petri church next to the event participated in the anti-pegida, pro-sharia protest by ringing the church bells with the explicit intent to disrupt the Pegida-speakers.

As the Swedish school system continues its steep Kamikaze-dive into the bedrock, the new education minister Gustav Fridolin made a solemn vow to the voters that if elected, he would fix the Swedish schools in his first 100 days in office.
Those 100 days are now passed, and he failed miserably.
But he doesn’t want to talk about that, because now he believes that he has found the key issue that is to blame for all of Sweden’s educational problems: There are not enough female historical figures in the school books! Yes! It is the endless parade of kings, male inventors and social leaders that are corrupting the poor childrens’ brains and making them drop like rocks in the annual PISA rankings!
Now, of course historical figures like Marie Curie, Cleopatra, Margaret Thatcher, Amelia Earhart and so on should get their well-deserved time in the spotlight. But since society has been largely male-dominated for millennia, there just so happen to be more males taking leadership positions and generally sticking out from the crowd than women. Consider Jean of Arc, who challenged the norm and got burned at the stake for the trouble. Stuff like that kind of discourages others from making waves.
So, even if every person in the book got the exact same allotted amount of text, the males would still come out ahead. Historical facts are kind of troublesome that way.
Fortunately, this is no issue for a determined politician. So education minister Fridolin summoned representatives from the leading publishers of school books to his office, where he made it clear that future books will be “gender balanced”.
As the primary customer of the publishers, the representatives were bending over backwards to accomodate Fridolin’s bold new vision.
“The gender issue is very important and we want to establish a productive dialogue with the National Agency for Education about this!” quipped Åsa Steholt, CEO of publishing house Gleerup after the meeting. The other participants who spoke to the press afterwards shared the same general sentiment.
“The authorities need to be more involved in the control and development of teaching materials,” said Gustav Fridolin after the meeting.
Funny thing, that. I always associated politically motivated history revisionism with other forms of government than democracy.
Oh well, I guess the little tykes will get most of it right, even if they might seem odd to non-Swedes when they speak about Napoleonette and Miss Churchill later in life.
Meanwhile, the scholastic race to the bottom continues unabated. Fellow blogger Swedish Surveyor has more on this.
One of Swedens financial newspapers recently uncovered a secret group of bureaucrats who go under the name “Mottagande” (Reception). They are preparing Sweden for 400,000 asylum seekers of which 130,000 children over the next 5 years. The new Swedes will stem mainly from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia.
There are at least 4 non-elected bureaucrats in the group and who are preparing Sweden for its new population.
- Max Elger, works for Minister of Finance, Magdalena Andersson
- Lars Westbratt, works for Minister of Justice, Morgan “only 1%” Johansson
- Erik Nilsson, works for former communist and current Minister of Employment, Ylva Johansson
- Annelie Roswall Ljungren, works for former illegal immigrant and current Minister of Public Administration, Ardalan Shekarabi
All economists agree that the immigration is at present a liability and costs up to 7% of the GDP/year according to Jan Tullberg, associate professor at Stockholms School of Economics.
The media and government downplays discussions of costs and rarely consider how 400,000 asylum seekers will impact different sectors of society so most taxpayers are simply unaware or fear being labelled racists or xenophobic for considering such controversial questions.
Nonetheless there are Swedes who fight back and in this specific case anti-establishment Tweeter @SinglaSlant made some amusing memes criticizising the individuals in the group for choosing to live far away from the multicultural Sweden they are working full-time to create.

Bureaucracies are inherently antidemocratic. Bureaucrats derive their power from their position in the structure, not from their relations with the people they are supposed to serve. The people are not masters of the bureaucracy, but its clients.
Alan Keyes (1950-?)
After the prognosis regarding upwards 100 000 asylum seekers coming to Sweden this year immigration and integration has become a smoking hot question seeing as the current volumes will entail crippling costs and Swedes becoming a minority in several villages and towns that they have lived in their whole lives such as in Kall.
One woman may come to change things forever.
She began her career as a parliamentarian with VPK (Left Party Communists) but switched allegiance to the somewhat less radical Social(ist)-Democrats and has been Minister of Schooling 1994-1998, Minister of Healthcare and Pensions in 2004-2006 and is now trying her luck as Minister of Integration 2014-2018.
Her name is Ylva Johansson and she is currently preparing a number of proposals which will be revealed in the spring. The details aren’t entirely clear but they will enable “new-arrivals” (see #8 in this PC-dictionary) to obtain taxpayer funded accomodation and jobs faster.
Lars Stjernkvist (S) and Gunnar Hedbergs (M) are politicians who are drawing up another proposal which entails forcing every single one of the countrys 290 municipalities to build up preperations so as to take on asylum seekers and prepare accomodation, schooling and Swedish education for them.
Ylva has called their proposal “interesting” but she has been firm on one point; all the municipalities will be forced to take on refugees, including the rich ones which have thus far avoided taking responsibility.
Asylum seekers live on welfare for an average of 6-8 years prior to becoming employed
Ylva wants to lower the average to 2 years but strongly dislikes the neo-liberal parties proposal regarding lower wages and would rather manipulate the market and inflate wages with taxpayer kronor.
If her proposal goes through companies who choose to employ asylum seekers will receive generous subsidies and tax breaks which, in effect, not only discriminates against all unemployed ethnic Swedes and 2nd generation immigrants but also make them pay for their own unfair treatment via taxes.
The neo-liberals are, in truth, not much better for they have choosen to support the socialists via the unholy alliance back in December. An agreement which is weathering a storm of criticism and has even been called a coup d’état by conservative French magazine Contrepoint.
The infamous December Agreement was a shock to backstabbed voters and as a consequence the Peoples Party and Christan Democrats are not looking good in opinion polls. They are at risk of getting kicked out of the parliament in the next election.
To counter the voter backlash Jan Björklund, leader of the Peoples Party, has brought forth several populistic proposals such as making residence for asylum seekers temporary instead of permanent and doling out less welfare to family members of asylum seekers. (A Somali woman with 3 children can currently receive upwards $2687 per month if she applies for all the Swedish benefits available)
Ylva strongly disagrees with Jans proposals and she seems to be unaware of the fact that only around 5% of Swedens asylum seekers are refugees by UN standards judging from her quote regarding hell below.
I am very skeptical to that. It doesn’t become easier to establish yourself in Sweden if you have to worry about your wife and child who are left back in hell.
Back in 2013 Sweden took in 20% of the EU:s asylum seekers, more than any other country in the EU, while simultaneously having a mere 2% of the EU:s total population. Unsurprisingly there is not a chance that Ylva or the government will implement sensible policies that will lead to less asylum seekers choosing Sweden.
I want the other EU-countries to to take a greater responsiblity but we cant accomplish that by making it harder or more difficult for people to come to Sweden.
Nonetheless I am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel and never in my wildest dreams did I think I would say this but I believe that Ylva Johansson might come to be Swedens best hope. My statement is no doubt controversial but here is the thing; where do the wealthy and those in power live?
Why in the very same municipalities that will be forced to accomodate a hefty portion of the 400 000 asylum seekers expected in the next 4 years thanks to Ylva Johansson proposal.
A wise man once said:
The mental blockage and severe denial that haunts the political class and the media elite probably stems from the fact that they live in ethnic white enclaves, far from the multicultural stew they cherish so much. They never wake up from gunfire in the night, nor are their cars burned. Their children go to nice schools where they never get robbed of their cell phones or hassled for being blond. When all you, personally, ever see is exotic restaurants opening down the block, it’s easy to be open-minded and all-welcoming.
The Sweden Report (?-?)
He decided to try his luck in Sweden and the the police asked the immigration authorities to take him into custody but instead of complying the representantive at the airport hailed a cab for the newcomer so he could, alone, go to the migration authorities to seek asylum.
The Danish Police Union have not been blind to the development and decided to write an article warning their officers of the lax Swedish mentality due to yet another extraordinary case whereas an Afghan man came on a flight from Istanbul.
He was a potential threat to security but was given a Swedish visa nonetheless.
Our politicians are simultaneously baffled as to why 1000-1500 war criminals have made Sweden home and that more ISIS-jihadists are coming from one Swedish town than the entire United States. To put things into perspective the town in question has a population of 0.5 million as opposed to the USA which has a population of 316 million.
Danish politicians understood that their counterparts were unlikely to do anything about the problems escalating due to political correctness and a blonde and blue-eyed mentality so they decided to protect their own citizens via an enforced border control to Sweden in 2011.
This legislation was not appreciated by the Swedes because it made them appear in a poor light so two leading neo-liberal Swedish politicians decided to write an article aimed at Denmark and how terribly populistic and narrow-minded they were.
The article can be found in the newspaper Svenska Dagbladet and is worth a read on google-translate if you would like to gain some insight into how a neo-liberal politician reasons. It calls the border control simplifying todays problem due to it entailing a more harsh attitude towards refugees, foreigners, minorities and people who have different opinions.
Olle and Hans go on to lecture the leaders of Europe and their grave need to read about history and realize that an open and united Europe is the only way to keep up with the emerging economies.
To fulfill their ideal of an “open Europe” must Sweden truly continue allowing war criminals, ISIS jihadists and people on the black list to enter the country?
ISIS have already observed the flaws in the Schengen Agreement and are now smuggling jihadis into Europe posing as refugees. In my humble opinion it is therefore high time for Sweden to reform its border policies even if that entails that our politicians have to suck up their pride and do what is in the best interest of their own constituents… for once.
